Wayne Fleisher
by guest author Mark Kokocki
If change is our only constant and variety the spice of life, then Wayne Fleisher is certainly a master who uses his passion and skills to his client’s and community’s best advantage.
Wayne’s home based business, Contractual Communications Consulting specializes in organizational & project management in both the corporate & non-profit arenas, disability benefits planning, career and life coaching, resume, editorial and grant writing, as well as special events planning.
From high tech to non-profit to consulting
Wayne’s background ranges from the high tech & retail management sectors to non-profit management in both HIV/AIDS and the performing arts worlds. He was the founding Executive Director of the Jon Sims Center for the Performing Arts in San Francisco and remains a Consultant with Sybase, the industry leader in delivering enterprise and mobile software to manage, analyze and mobilize information.
Wayne volunteered for Under One Roof supporting over 100 Bay Area HIV/AIDS organizations then successfully managed their retail “Holiday Card Project”. He served as the Program Director for the AIDS Assistance Program in Palm Springs, where his fundraising successes led to the development of an endowment fund. Wayne moved on to become Chief Operating Officer for Working Wonders, an organization dedicated to women, children youth and families impacted by HIV/AIDS.
Accept change. Different is good, better than what was.
Wayne’s obvious deep well of passion & energy comes from his experiences and his ability to accept life as it is, right now. “Taking control during transformational periods in my life has been the best choice I’ve made.” His life challenges started early contracting polio as a child and living with hiv since the 80’s. The challenges faced by himself and those in his community strengthened his resolve to never give up and has become an inspiration to the community he supports. One such current endeavour is Benefits Education Center (BEC) providing cutting edge Disability Benefits Training and Private Benefits Coaching to the Community of Providers and Individuals living with all disabilities.
Controlled Isolation
A few years ago Wayne relocated to Palm Springs to be closer to and care for his elderly mother. Fortunately, having a home based business means that Wayne can work from just about anywhere. But working from home does present some challenges. For one thing, there’s the isolation. To counter that, Wayne works for a local law firm a couple of shifts a week, in addition to being a part of the Sybase and BEC teams.
It didn’t take long for Wayne to get involved with the arts community in his new town. He puts his BFA in Directing & Choreography to good use supporting various community organizations. For example, he’s both a choreographer & board members for Caballeros (the Gay Men’s Chorus of Palm Springs). He’s also worked for the past five years as a choreographer with Les Originales, a local drag group that raises funds for community services.
Never Stop
As an early riser, dedicated to his own well being, Wayne actively engages his love for all things metaphysical. He maintains his commitment to exercise and can be known to dance to “This is My Life” in his office to remind him just how fortunate he is. When asked if he had one piece of wisdom to share, Wayne responded, “First thought, best thought. It has never failed me.”
Learning to walk through life has never looked so inspiring – if only I had Wayne’s energy!
