Many people dream of becoming an entrepreneur, but they’re not sure exactly what’s involved and whether they would be able to do it. One of the quickest and most low-cost ways to become a successful entrepreneur is by starting a home-based business.
Are you suited to be an entrepreneur?
Running a home based or online business is all about your attitude and work ethic. There are certain traits that most successful entrepreneurs possess, such as being risk-takers, self-starters, and hard workers.
You need to evaluate your strengths and weaknesses. Do you how to plan, organize, and control work processes? Are you a self-starter? Have you always liked making money, and more to the point – have you always worked hard to make money?
These are the first questions I would ask someone who is thinking of starting a home based business. In addition, how are you at working alone? You need to be able to work alone because now you’re the boss and all business decisions will be made by you.
Entrepreneurs are known to be self-starters. Organizing your time is a difficult task but if you want to run a home-based online business, you should be able to do it. Remember, you don’t have a boss that you can rely on. This is your business and you have to be responsible for it at all times.
You can choose who you will do business with
Running your own business also means that you have to deal with all different kinds of people. You will surely encounter demanding customers, moody vendors, and an unreliable staff. To become a successful home-based business entrepreneur, you need to have good people skills so that you can deal with all sorts of people effectively. However, one of the perks of being your own boss is that if you can afford it, you can pick and choose who you will do business with. If someone really bugs you or is a bad client, you can choose not to do business with them.
Watch out for the “get rich quick” pitches
Don’t believe the “get rich quick” pitches that say a home based business is the route to fast riches with no headaches. You especially find these kind of pitches online. Beware, because even with an online business, you have to deal with business problems and risks. You can’t completely eliminate such risks, but you can reduce them by doing careful planning and not overextending yourself financially.
You’ll probably work longer hours
Many new entrepreneurs are surprised to find that contrary to their expectations, they are actually working more hours in their own business than they did when they were employed by someone else. The good news is, that you are your own boss and all those hours you put in are for your own payoff! That makes it a whole lot more rewarding.

This is so true Barbra!
My husband has been surprised at the hours that I’m working now; and the people I used to work with rarely believe me when I tell them that I’m usually still sitting at the computer at 10.00 at night. I’m sure they think that because I work for myself Iall I do is drink coffee in cafe’s all day and watch the money roll in!
