How to Leverage Your Profile on Social Networking Sites

no_words (2).jpgDo you have a business profile on social networking sites such as LinkedIn or Facebook? If so, you’ll enjoy this short but wise article by Chris Brogan.

Brogan says that social networking sites aren’t places to merely upload a list of what you’ve done in the past. Rather, they are an opportunity to stay connected to people, and to demonstrate where you are NOW, and where you plan to go NEXT.  This is an important distinction, particularly when you want readers to consider you for a job or project.

Keep in mind that you’ll need different profiles depending on where you are posting. Don’t confuse a social networking profile (where the objective is connect with other professionals for the purpose of collaboration) with the professional bio you put on your own website (where the purpose is to demonstrate your expertise to prospective clients). There’s a subtle but very real difference between the two objectives. Go here for more advice on how to write a short bio.
