Website Stats Contain Hidden Money
Recently I discovered a nice little money maker that requires almost no work on my part. Sound too good to be true? Keep reading and I'll tell you about it.
I have a website called Become A Certifed Coach. As the name implies, it's a website providing information to people wanting to become a certified business or life coach. If you click over to the site, you'll see that the main focus is training courses and other tools for coach training.
Here's the hidden money part
According to my website statistics, of the 7000 or so unique visitors that the site gets each month, 5000 of those enter and exit on one particular page. And get this: that page has nothing to do with my coach training services.
The page in question is an article I wrote a couple of years ago on how to write a professional bio. It's a nice little how-to article with a sample fill-in-the-blank template. I put it on the BecomeACertifiedCoach.com website simply as a free resource for people browsing the site.
How do those 5000 people find the article each month?
The article is a little buried, as articles sometimes are. If you're at the home page you have to click on Articles and then "Write A Professional Bio" to get to that article.
But here's the cool part and the key to the hidden money: Google loves that article. So when people type "how to write a bio" or something similar into Google, my page comes up in the top three. That's how people are finding the page.
But how does that make money?
Well, up until a month ago it wasn't making me money. But I looked at those statistics and I saw gold in them thar numbers. I figured that if 5000 people a month need to write a professional bio, a certain percentage of them would pay to have one written for them.
What about the "almost no work" part?
You're right, writing bios for people is not exactly "no work". But I'm not writing individual bios for people (although I could do that if I was so inclined). Instead, what I'm doing is writing fill-in-the-blank templates customized for about 100 different jobs. After the initial writing is done, then I'm in the "make money with no work" phase.
It's dead simple to set up the payment and delivery of the template through Paypal. I don't have to do anything except watch those little "You have new funds" emails come in. That's what's known as "passive revenue" and I'm enjoying it already.
The moral of the story: check your website stats
When I put that "how to write a bio" article on my coaching website I had no idea that it would become so popular. And if I hadn't been checking my website stats I never would have noticed that 5000 people a month are landing on that particular page. By keeping an eye on my stats I discovered a ready-made business just waiting to be born.
And by the way, already I'm getting several orders a week for bio templates. And that's with no additional marketing or promotion. Talk about stepping into an existing client base. Yippee!
So is there hidden money in your website stats?
Check your stats regularly. Look at what words people use to find your site. And if you see a particular page or service that is overwhelmingly popular, ask yourself how you could leverage that traffic.

Barbara, I found this a very helpful article. I've always wondered what people were talking about when they referred to their stats and now I understand.
This is a brilliant idea! Unfortunately, my biggest hits are always related to politics.
Hi Barbara
