It’s easy to check if your site has been indexed by Google. Just do a search for your entire URL, starting with http. If your site is displayed as a result, then you know it’s included in Google’s index.
For example, to find out if HomeBusinessWiz is listed, I would type http://www.homebusinesswiz.com into Google’s search box. If it comes up blank (no search results), I know that my site is not listed. If it comes up with one or more search results, then I know it’s listed.
How to get a Google listing
You don’t have to do anything special to get a Google listing. In the vast majority of cases it will happen automatically. It can take anywhere from 1 – 90 days before they get around to your site, though. Patience is required.
The quickest way to get your site indexed is to get a link to your new site from an existing website. For example, if you have another website put a link on it to your new site. Or mention your new site on Twitter, Facebook or another social networking site. When Google crawls the existing site it will notice the link to your new site and go over to look at it. Then your site will get indexed. To make sure you’ve done everything within your power to get your site listed in Google, go here for tips on what to do.
Why sites don’t show up in Google listings
Although Google crawls billions of pages, it’s inevitable that some sites will be missed. When their spiders miss a site, it’s frequently for one of the following reasons:
- The site isn’t well connected through multiple links from other sites on the web.
- The site launched after Google’s most recent crawl was completed.
- The design of the site makes it difficult for Google to effectively crawl its content.
- The site was temporarily unavailable when Google tried to crawl it or they received an error when trying to crawl it.

Very helpful post. I have been tearing my hair out trying to find out if a couple of sites were listed or if they were just so far down in the ranking that I lost patience trying to find them. I guess it must be the latter.
